[ Why? ]
We don't need precision. We need context.
We design into what is already standing — and what is standing has texture, damage and history. An extruded footprint tells us nothing we couldn’t have guessed: window placement, floor heights, the line of a cornice all read off a textured model, and sometimes that one window informs the whole design.
We don’t want the cleaned-up site, swept empty for something pristine and wasteful. The cracks, the additions, the collage — that is what a project can answer to. So let the context be rough and keep the model precise.

Draw a box around the block. Get it back the same afternoon.
Crop the real site
Search the address, drag the box over the block, rotate it to the street. Municipal and national open-data surveys, wherever the authority publishes them.
Keep the texture
The crop comes down with its photographic surface: facades, signage, the state the building is actually in. The mesh keeps its texture map; the cloud keeps a colour on every point.
Open it where you work
OBJ into Rhino, Blender or SketchUp, E57 into ArchiCAD and Revit. Both georeferenced with a local origin — right coordinates, right scale, accurate enough to measure that window off.
